Cristiano Ronaldo welcomes “winner” Mourinho

Portuguese responds to countryman’s arrival

Jose Mourinho will be presented as the new coach of Real Madrid on Monday. The move will unite Portuguese football’s two most recognisable faces, with Mourinho set to team up with Seleccao captain Cristiano Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

The Spanish club are reported to have finalised a compensation package worth €8m with newly-crowned European champions Internazionale to bring Mourinho to the capital. As a result, Mourinho will face the media as the new coach of Real Madrid during a Monday afternoon press conference.

“I am very happy. It will be great to have him as coach next season,” Ronaldo told Marca when asked about Mourinho‘s hiring. “Jose is like me, a winner. His arrival makes me very happy.

“I hope to achieve many victories and trophies with him. That was the reason I came to Real Madrid, to win titles. I hope next season will be very good and I have great confidence that it will be.”

Meanwhile, according to Marca, Mourinho has insisted on a low-key presentation, with the former Porto boss keen to avoid any of the elaborate press gatherings afforded to recent star signings at the club.

no david your'e the clown...i never said anyone mentioned his stats or price I WAS STATING THEM TO PROVE MY POINT...why did i mention his acheivments and price? because those things give him the cache to act the way he does...do you even know know what the definition of assumption is? because i was stating FACTS not OPINIONS like YOU....."a single temper tantrum and mourinho will have him riding the bench" that is an ASSumption...you never said a word about performance all you talked about was temper tantrums...what did drogba do? the same type of things ronaldo does on the field he gets upset when the ball isnt passed to him or a foul isnt called or even when he isnt allowed to take a penalty or free kick...and mourinho WILL tolerate his attitude as long as the team wins and he scores NOW there is an assumption for you...."trust me" What i do know is that real madrid is about money and have taken out serious loans recently in a country that is in serious financial trouble as are their banks so moneys need to be recouped....go get a dictionary and a newspaper buddy then you can respond to me.

What a clown, who has mentioned anythg about ronaldo's achievements at real this season? Oh, no1 has, so pls stop quoting achievements...i remember u speaking of assumptions in ur previous posts on this site...hav ur crown of assumptions back haha. As far as 90mil for ronaldo, yes everyone knows thats what he costs, but should he not perform, no amount of millions will put him onto the pitch and give him playing time. The point im making, which im sure is what the previous writer is also saying, is that should ronaldo not be willing to play to mourinho's instructions and hav an attitude towards the role he's given etc, trust me, mourinho is definately the man to sit him on the bench or sub him out a match. With mourinho it's his way or no way. As for ur mentioning drogba, what did the drog do at chelsea to go against mourinho to warrant a place on the sidelines? Once again, no1 on this site doubts ronaldo's capabilities as a player, that he's amongst the elite in today's game. Like i said before, i think he'll get better under mourinho(the opportunity is there to do that)...now what we're sayin is, is he willing to keep his sometimes volatile attitude at bay, cos mourinho won't tolerate attitude.
ronaldo on the bench? hahha ok

ronaldo ride the bench? lol you guys are ridiculous 90 million for him to ride the bench...33 goals from the wing to ride the bench....did drogba ride the bench?NO...mourinho only sat balotelli for a few games because moratti asked him to didnt you see balotelli in the champions league final? and he did alot worse than ronaldo ever has...mourinho knows this is a buisness first now and esp at madrid...that 90 million needs to be recouped tickets and jerseys need to be sold...and you dont sit the best player in the world period...ronaldo will be the golden boot/world player of the year again next year and will not sit unless hes hurt or suspended....ronaldo is one of the hardest working players in futebol and mourinho loves those kinds of players...mourinho also loves results and thats what ronaldo gives you

In connection with a few of the posts earlier...i do think figo will follow mourinho to real as will silvinho(ex benfica & porto goalkeeper). Secondly,at the comment on ronaldo riding the bench...i agree with u...yes ronaldo is a phenomenal player, but a single temper tantrum and u know mourinho will have him ride the bench or watching from the stands.in mourinho's teams there is no superstar, u play to his liking, u play for the team...if u dont, well, we know the consequences. Now,i do think ronaldo will grow as a player under mourinho.i hope to see mourinho succeed in his post at real.now for some transfers on the cards,i think a right back, maicon being obvious choice(should that not be possible, than bosingwa).a centre back i think is needed.maybe we'll see the return of sneider(excuse the spelling), and exit of kaka. Personally, being portuguese, take bosingwa and bruno alves with u jose, partner them with pepe at the back.make real a success with portuguese players

Jorge Jesus is a good choice. Maybe at some point in the next 20 years Villas Boas will grow into another Mourinho and take over the Portugal NT.
Mourinho as Portugal boss will be probably 20 yrs

As Jon poins out Mourinho time and time again has stated that the Portugal Job is only for his later years and right now he is 47, 48 I want to say so if he indeed takes it at 70 thats 22 years. Im pretty sure Mourinho would only ever take job with Portugal as he has said and i remember reading article about how before England got Capello; that Mourinho was considered but he said he would only coach Portugal NT. Mourinho is absolute man of his word. He's always stuck by his statements in terms of what he wants to do in coaching with winning domestically in England, Spain, Italy big 3 ligas and then he hopes he will take place of Man U boss Ferguson. If not Man U then some other English side like perhaps Chelsea again, Man City Liverpool. He loves the Premier League and English football.

However even if it is 20 years I do believe there is hope with another talented manager. And my clubs colors aside that man is JORGE JESUS. He has had success with Belenense , Braga, helped build best Benfica squad in some time, and this man lives futbol, also a good tactician. Now God willing Queiroz has success with our current NT players maybe by 2014 JJ has had enough time with Benfica and maybe he will be next in line and if he is I think Jorge Jesus could lead us to cup glory.

Did anyone notice the quote? I hope Mourinho doesn't wait until he is 70 to the seleccao. I hope he isn't serious because we could use him within the next 5-10 years especially if Queiroz fails.
lost in translation Rui?

I don't know if you're aware of this but Figo no longer plays. I commend your bravery though. Pork chop CR will not be riding the bench unless he's injured. Mourinho described him as a phenominon. Wake up dude. Forca PORTUGAL!

Thanks to Pellegrini for putting some major players on the pitch now Mourinho can go in gel them into a team. I have great expectations about this move. Now if he would just coach the NT the great players of Portugal would have what they need to bring their talents to WC champions for once.
