We don't need new signings - Nuno Santos

Goalkeeper opposed to coach's comments

nunosantos1.jpgSitting in second last place in the table and having won last in late October, Vitoria Setubal's Nuno Santos wants the current squad to pull themselves out of their own predicament and not have to rely on new players joining the team.

Santos has taken exception to coach Manuel Fernandes' latest comments that the club might have to dip into the transfer market in January in order to ensure that the team remains in the top flight of Portuguese football.

But Santos has made a public plea to Fernandes and the club that they should put more faith in the group of players that are present as he insists that he and his team-mates will repay confidence shown in them.

"The players are intelligent and know that this will act as a pinch towards the team," declared Santos. "Let the team work and prove that this idea is wrong and that we don't need to sign so many players."

"We have to be constantly motivated at 300% and we cannot be lower than that. We have to play as if we were facing FC Porto or Barcelona and be more intelligent, in order to get more luck our way."
