Goncalo Brandao begins Juventus stintDefender looking to impress Siena’s Portuguese defender Goncalo Brandao has started a brief period of training with Juventus, during which he is expected to represent the club in two friendly matches.
Former Belenenses stopper Brandao, 23, was in impressive form with Siena this season in Serie A, and as a result was invited, along with a handful of other players, to join Juventus as they prepare to play two end of season friendly games in North America. The Bianconeri play the New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena, New Jersey, USA on May 23rd, before travelling to the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, to meet fellow Italians Fiorentina two days later. The matches, in addition to a week’s training, will give Brandao the chance to impress the Bianconeri coaching staff and possibly lead to a switch to Turin. “It’s a great opportunity, although I know nothing is certain,” Brandao said. “Being able to represent Juventus outside the country is fantastic. If they have called me, it is because they have been keeping an eye on me and I want to give everything. “I am not thinking about (anything permanent). It was only an invitation to represent the club in two matches and I want to give my best. If something follows, I’ll be happy, but for now it’s just speculation.” By Sean Gillen Keep up to date with all the latest news on Portuguese football with the new PortuGOAL Twitter! |
