Goncalo Brandao to undergo surgery, out for up to six months

Defender to have operation

Italian club Siena have confirmed that Portuguese defender Goncalo Brandao has ruptured his Achilles tendon and will require surgery.

The 23-year-old was invited to join Juventus’ end-of-season tour of North America, but suffered the injury to the Achilles in his right leg after just twelve minutes of the Bianconeri’s match with Fiorentina in Toronto earlier this week.

Initial suspicions that the injury was serious have now been confirmed, with Siena declaring that the former Belenenses man will be operated on tomorrow at the San Giuseppe Hospital in Arezzo. Brandao is then expected to be out for between four and six months, meaning he will miss a large chunk of the first half of the 2010/11 season.

I like these articles. This site is the only English site that provides info on any Portuguese players around the world or teams within the liga and sometimes the second division. Out side of this site most of us can find info on the big 3, but it’s the little things like this that make this site different. They are still releasing articles on the world cup as news comes out.

Lol so true. Nobody cares about these players all over the continent. I dont even recognize half their names.

No offence but yeah we need an update on Tiago and I think I read elsewhere that Simao was injured too?

I wish Brandao a successful operation and a fast recovery.

Rtp site says that Tiago injury isnt severe and he should still be able to participate. Also Miguel Danny talks about wanting to help squad whether he is used as sub for Deco or asked to play forward, he also says that the squad will now start to begin stonger workouts, more intensity in lead up to Cup. But stillthe website leads with Oscar Cardozo and his sessions with Paraguay, and then Essien injury meaning hes out for Ghana. I mean is it so hard to have a Portuguese website (talking about RTP) discuss only Portugal and not other countries except for maybe those in our group.

You are absolutely right about needing more information on the national team. About Tiago we the fans would love to know how bad is the muscle tear. Is he out of the WC. If so are we turning to Moutinho or Manuel Fernandes. I mean we are only few days away from Cameroon friendly. What is the mood of the squad. How far along is Pepe with his recovery, last I heard he was something like 85 percent give or take and just started lightly training with others. Is there a sense of urgency in the camp for this upcoming friendly. I mean I am exactly as you I want all Seleccao news for the next 18 days until we open play on the 15th.

Obvioulsy there is still Portuguese players who will or might be transfered, our beloved Mourinho talked about a little bit of his insight of the current Madrid squad and perhaps possible future ones. Also the Jesualdo exit from Porto is big news as well but these headlines need to take a back seat to our boys on the NT. People may not want to focus on them especiially after Cape Verde friendly but we need to focus on the matter at hand. THE WORLD CUP and the men who wear the shirt
