Belenenses defender signs 5-year deal with Siena
“Financially, it was a good offer,” Brandao said of the deal with the Tuscan club. “Any player would like to play in the Italian championship. I signed a five-year contract that will give me sufficient stability to earn a place in the team and adapt to Italian football.” Brandao made just 19 league appearances for Belenenses after making his debut in February 2007, but talks on a new contract stalled due to significant differences between the parties. The Portuguese club are believed to have been paid between 300,000 and 400,000 euros by Siena for the defender. Siena, who play at the 16,000 capacity Artemio Franchi stadium, finished 13th in the Italian top flight last season. Brandao joins a growing contingent of young Portuguese players being snapped up by Italian clubs. Pele, Antunes and Manuel da Costa have all moved to Inter Milan, Roma and Fiorentina, respectively, in the last year.
