Everton and Fulham join chase for Yannick Djalo

Sporting start pre-season tour with narrow win

Yannick Djalo Sporting crestYannick Djalo’s exit from Sporting is imminent according to his agent, Lionel da Silva. The speedy forward was Sporting’s man-of-the-match in a pre-season victory over Young Boys in Switzerland yesterday, but the Guinea-Bissau born player does not feature in coach Paulo Sergio’s plans.

The Lisbon club refused formal bids received from Tottenham and Newcastle earlier in the week, but have let it be known they are willing to sell for the right price. Fellow Premier League clubs Everton and Fulham are now said to be interested in taking on the Portugal forward.

“Sporting will let him leave for around 7 or 8 million euros. The firm offers we have are from Tottenham and Newcastle, which are both over five million euros. Therefore, given the small difference in question, I believe this transfer will go ahead quickly. We were much further apart in the past,” said Lionel da Silva.

The agent added that at 24 years of age, “Yannick looks favourably on the chance to play in England,” and said that his client is keen on signing a long-term contract.

Opening victory

In Sporting’s first match of their pre-season tour of Switzerland, an acrobatic shot from Carlos Saleiro in the 27th minute was enough to give the Lions a win against Young Boys, who finished runners-up in the Swiss championship last season.

The goal was set up by Djalo, who was the most impressive player on the pitch in a slow-paced workout. New midfielders Maniche and Andre Santos also put in noteworthy displays, with the former unlucky to see his 76th-minute header bounce back off the bar.

Despite the victory, coach Paulo Sergio admits there is a lot of work to be done to make Sporting a team to be reckoned with in 2010/11, including the recruitment of further reinforcements. The ambitious coach assured Sporting fans the club is working hard to strengthen the squad although he added it is proving difficult to acquire the players they have targeted.

i personally think he shoujld either go to everton or newcastleand when he does he well get a spot on portugal as well with this line up of young players developing such as
nelson from betis working in to the portugal team as a sub for bosingwa with coentrao on the left but jose goncalve could develop into a better more experienced defender with pepe and alves in cb with carvalho and deco retire and simao past his best fernandes from valencia and joao moutinho and nani replacing them for staring 11 also liedson is a question his succesor would be yannick but almeida is doing well for a staring

Bosingwa pepe alves coentrao
fernandes
meireles
joao moutinho
NANI yannick
ronaldo
NELSON
PELE
VASCO FERNANDES
JOSE GONCALVES ANTUNES

Maca Podre, you are the one that should be going crazy about Sporting.
First let me say that I have been plenty critical of Benfica and will continue to do so.

As for Sporting, they have been beyond poor. Just not in their play, but in their handling of the club.
The fact is that Portugal needs the "Big Three", especially if Braga is just going to cash in and fall back this season.
As much as I may dislike Sporting, I still recognize the need for them to be competitive.

You should be questioning Bettencourt, who has made bad move after bad move, with no explanation.
PLEASE

Dear Yannick,
I was wondering if and when you land in england that you can learn how to score some goals. The seleccao could use you in the euros and next world cup. I am sure you watched the world cup this summer and noticed how we had 4-5 real chances to score outside of the korea game. Start hanging out with Wayne Rooney and follow him around manchester so you can learn how to score. Thanks and good luck.

Ed Gomes, your constant attacks on Sporting in this forum are tiresome. Just because Benfica finally won the title last year doesn't give you the the right to constantly attack their rivals. Keep talking, and I can't wait until the season starts. Just wait until your team hits a rough spot again.
poor league

The Super Liga could be really poor this season. Too many young players are leaving and not enough quality coming in to replace them.

Of course this is nothing new, but so far this summer seems particularly bad.

I fear for how our clubs are going to perform in Europe this season...

Madness, indeed.
Bettencourt is still in charge?

All in all, this is the best thing that could happen to Yannick.
Get away as fast and far away from Alvalade as possible.

this looks like Sporting need to balance the books for the stupid madness buy in Sinama Pongolle for about the same amount of coin.
hope he plays

I just hope he doesn't bite off more than he can chew. If he tries to play for a big club with too many stars then he may not get to play. I'm really hoping against hope that he can improve his skills so that he can be a major player for Portugal at Euro 2012. We NEED strikers.
sell him to evrton if going to

still I think sergio and evryone with sporting wanting to get rid of yannick are fools. But if your going to sell him then sell him to everton where at least nuno valente is a scout and it's a mid table club wherw I think he could fit well. So sad to see yannick go hope he excels wherever he goes. Moyes is good coach so hipefully he can help him develop
