Carrico suffers contusion to left arm

Injury downgraded from fracture

daniel-carrico-20100714.jpgSporting fans will be relieved to know that team captain Daniel Carrico did not suufer as bad an injury to his left arm as first thought and will be back in action much sooner than expected.

The rugged defender collided with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gregory Coupet in the 79th minute of the team's 4-2 loss to the French side and left the field holding his left arm.

At first, it was thought that Carrico had suffered a break of some sort as the stopper was forced to put on a sling. But after some preliminary tests, Sporting's medical staff have reduced the injury to a mere contusion.

"Daniel Carrico suffered violent trauma to his left forearm and elbow. It was x-rayed and despite have verified the existence of a bone contusion, which prohibits proper functioning, there was no fracture detected," confimed Gomes Pereira.

"The recovery should be quick, but the player is at risk for the match on Sunday against Lyon. Despite everything, I would say that he will be available for the trip to the United States."
