Pedro Mendes: “Sporting are a great team, but no contact has been made”
Portugal international comments on transfer speculation
Portugal midfielder Pedro Mendes has reacted to the intense speculation linking him to Sporting. The Glasgow Rangers player did not hold back on his praise of the Lisbon outfit, but made a point of stating that “absolutely nothing” has been discussed regarding a possible transfer back to his homeland.
Speaking to Portuguese radio station, TSF, Mendes said, “Sporting are a huge club who fight to win trophies. But there is absolutely nothing and I think it is important to define that no contact has been made. I’m not saying that I want or I don’t want the move, but it’s important to clarify matters.”
Clarification
“I couldn’t let a situation like this (intense transfer speculation) go by without giving a response. Sporting are a great team, a young team. As with any offer, I would have to analyse it and decide what is best for me and for the clubs in question.”
Mendes has been out of action for over two months after suffering a knee ligament injury in the Champions League match against Unirea Urziceni. He is expected to make his first-team comeback within a fortnight.
