Sinama-Pongolle out for up to three weeks

Sporting’s new signing picks up injury on debut

Sinama-PongolleSporting Badge.jpgFrench forward Sinama-Pongolle has strained a ligament in his left knee and will be out of action for two to three weeks.

The news comes as a setback to Sporting, who are already without the services of Liedson until mid February. Pongolle could miss up to five matches in all competitions.

The speedy forward made his debut as a second-half substitute in the victory against Leixoes on Saturday, and is expected to quickly establish himself as a regular starter following his big-money move from Atletico Madrid.

As well as the injured strike duo of Liedson and Pongolle, Sporting will be without the services of midfielder Simon Vukcevic for their trip to Uniao de Leiria in the Carlsberg Cup tomorrow. The Montenegrin has flu.

What almad said is so stupid, why would they buy a player for alot of money because Benfica do :S it doesnt make sense and if it doesnt make sense its a load of crap, look at where sporting are on the table, thats why they spent money, it had nothing to do with Benfica.

Your why we dont need biased people on these sites, you say stupid things.

only reason you bought him was to copy benfica by spending big money in the transfer market to show people that you can compete but the fact is sporting has been rubbish

I agree that Pongolle was just too much money, and it could of been spent better like on Carlao from U. Leira and Carlao is actually fit opposed to Pongolle who was rarely seeing the pitch at Athletico. Play Yannick up front with Saleiro who has really been playing well and making the most of his playing time. I think Saleiro can be a really solid player for Sporting, not neccesarily the dominant striker that Liedson is but Saleiro at least right now is their best striker. Postiga has been disappointing when he has played, Yannick is just getting back from injury, but when fit a threat, Pongolle not fit and already injured, Liedson obviously Sportings best player. Now that ive typed the strikers from Sporting even when everybody is healthy Saleiro still at the least is the 2nd best striker maybe yannick. To sum up Pongolle injury not a big deal in my eyes
