Sporting given fresh hope in chase for Valencia’s Manuel FernandesMidfielder keen on exit Sporting’s hopes of bringing Manuel Fernandes back to Portugal appear to have received a boost, after Valencia changed their stance over a possible loan deal for the player.
The Lisbon club had approached Valencia last month to discuss the possibility of signing Fernandes on loan for the remainder of the season. However, at that time, the Spaniards insisted they would not consider any temporary arrangement for the out of favour 23-year-old. According to A Bola, Valencia have now changed their stance, following a meeting with the player last week in which Fernandes expressed a desire to leave the club. Having struggled for minutes since returning to full fitness after a long spell out injured, Fernandes is desperate to play regularly between now and the World Cup in order to secure a place in Carlos Queiroz’s 23-man squad for South Africa. The Portuguese paper quotes Valencia sporting director, Fernando Gomez, as saying that the club are now willing to negotiate a loan deal for the former Benfica man. As a result, Sporting are expected to return to the negotiating table in the near future in the hope of finally bringing Fernandes to the Alvalade.
