Ricardo Rocha joins Standard Liege

One-year deal for Portuguese

Former Benfica defender Ricardo Rocha will play in the Champions League this season, after signing a one-year contract with Belgian champions Standard Liege.

Rocha had been out of contract since his release from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season. The 30-year-old was linked with a move to Italian side Livorno, but has ultimately opted for Standard, coached by former Sporting manager Laszlo Boloni.

Standard have been crowned champions for the last two seasons in Belgium, and were draw in Group H of the Champions League along with Arsenal of England, Greek champions Olympiakos and AZ Alkmaar of the Netherlands.

Rocha will wear the number 4 shirt at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne, where he will link up with compatriot Tiago Ronaldo. The 19-year-old arrived at Standard this summer from Vitoria Setubal.

It was a disaster his time at Tottenham it basically ruined his career for making that move.
