Braga focused on win against PSG

Jesus points to key areas

Jorge JesusAs his team prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Cup last-16 knockout tie second leg at the Estadio AXA tomorrow evening, Braga boss Jorge Jesus insists his side will focus all their thoughts on winning the game on the night.

The teams drew 0-0 in the first leg at the Parc Des Princes last week, meaning another goalless draw would see the tie move into extra time and possibly penalties, but Jesus is adamant that the Arsenalistas will have their mind clearly set on winning the match.

“We are conscious of the fact that to have drawn without goals is a risky result, that leaves the tie open for both teams,” he said. “But it can also be positive, because in my mind and that of the team, only one result suits: the victory. We have to win and it is with this thought that we will go into the game."

The 54-year-old added that “defensive organisation” and a “quick attack” could be key factors in his team’s chances of progress, saying: “It is in these areas that we can decide whether or not we get through the round.”

Speaking about his players, Jesus went on to praise their mentality since he took over last summer. “There has been a big evolution. The character of this team has astonished me. In the San Siro, Alvalade, Liege, the most difficult environments, we played with class. My players have grown in this aspect. I will not ask for anything different. The opponents we play do not change our ideas.”

One aspect of the tie that could work in Braga’s favour is PSG manager Paul Le Guen’s balancing act between league and European competition. Le Guen left key players Ludovic Giuly and Guy Hoarau out of the first leg, with the Parisians just one point off the top in Ligue 1 and keen to continue to fight for the French championship.

“They are going to play Toulouse (on Sunday) and the French league is being hotly contested,” said Jesus. “I think they give that priority, as I would. But if Hoarau comes into the game it is a good sign, because it would mean that Braga has the advantage.”

After the 90 mins are over in the AXA, there is no doubt that Braga will come out with the victory. As we seen in recent weeks, Braga played the most beautiful and effective techtical football seen in Portugal and also in Europe. They never back down to anyone whether it is AC Milan or PSA. And with the sharp mind of Jorge Jesus, Braga can go one step further in the club history.
