Carlao poised for January moveSporting a possible destination Uniao de Leiria are on the verge of losing their biggest asset, but will ensure that they get maximum return for prolific striker Carlao.
Reports n Portugal are stating that the 24-year-old's time at the Estadio Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa is quickly coming to an end as clubs from abroad are very interested in taking the Brazilian on. Carlao has found the back of the net 9 times in all competitions thus far this season which has made clubs such as Hannover 96 and an unnamed Arab outfit keen on snapping up the physically imposing hitman. But the former Sao Cristovao player will not come cheap. The marksman's release clause is believed to be set at €4 million, although it can be argued it is not an exorbitant price in today's market. Should Carlao's agent, Murilo Maia, have his way, he would have clubs pay at least double for his client's services as the FIFA representative thinks very highly of the Liga ZON Sagres' second highest goal scorer. "He is worth a lot more than that (€4m)," said Maia to Maisfutebol. "That's just a reference point when he arrived in Portugal. He was an unknown and Leiria were in the Liga da Honra." "Now he is worth much more and he is a complete player - good with his head, can shoot with either foot and is only 24 years old." Portugal preferenceMaia added that Carlao would prefer to remain in Portugal and that Sporting hold a first right of refusal, which was built into the deal when they negotiated the loan of full-back Ronny last season."Carlao's preference would be to stay in Portugal, where he has been well received and is very happy. That is what he asked of me - try and make the next step, but to continue here. A move to the Arab world does not interest him as he would lose visibility." Maia concluded that Sporting have always been interested in the Leiria man, and that Benfica also made inquiries at one point. The next few weeks will be decisive as Carlao is eager to make the jump to a bigger stage and Leiria also could make do with the extra money. by Marco Pereira

For Leiria's situation it would be very tough to keep him but the chances are the unknown Arab club would bid higher than Hannover 96 so it would be best to send him to the middle east and Leiria can try find better acquisitions. Good luck to Leiria and Carlao.
Good timing

Braga should get him as a replacement for Matheus. Although they might not want to spend that kind of cash.
