Carlao out to prove himself against BenficaStriker to showcase skills in upcoming match Uniao de Leiria will be hosting Benfica this weekend and Carlao will be using the match as a stepping stone to demonstrate the Liga, and Europe, just what he is capable of doing.
The 23-year-old has been with Lis for just over half a season, arriving from Brazilian club Sao Cristovao in January, and as been a revelation for the Portuguese side. The striker racked up 12 goals last season, helping Leiria earn promotion to the Liga Sagres this year, and has already found the back of the net twice in the early going of the current campiagn. Carlao was the subject of much transfer speculation this summer as Benfica and Sporting were mooted as possible destinations. With that in the back of his mind, the Brazilian claims that this weekend's contest will be an opportunity to show exactly what he can do. "It will be a match where I can show, not just for Sporting, but all the big clubs in Portugal and abroad what I am capable of doing," said Carlao to Renascenca. "I do have the ambition to make the leap, regardless if it be Sporting, Benfica or FC Porto, but at this moment I have to do my job with Leiria. Come January, who knows, I could very well make a move to one of these clubs." As for the match against Benfica, the Brazilain feels that it will take a lot of teamwork on Leiria's part to come away with a positive result. "Benfica are a very good team, with excellent players. I rather play for a modest club and enjoy moderate success and the game itself than be at a big club like the Big Three and always stressing out due to the competition.
I hope Carlao enjoys his season and Liga Sagres and continues to make improvements to his game and bring the Lis into contention someday.
