Almeida keen on Benfica switchStriker looking to return home Werder Bremen's Hugo Almeida wants to return to Portugal and Benfica may be the club to allow the burly striker to do just that.
It has been reported that the Lisbon club are interested in bringing the 26-year-old to the Estadio da Luz and word has caught the ear of the Portuguese international. Almeida, who has one year remaining on his deal with the Bundesliga outfit, has had his interest perked by the news and has admitted that he would not shun a move to the current domestic champions. "I have one year left on my contract and if I don't leave this season, next year I will be free. Clearly, I want to return to Portugal, but only to one of the big three," said Almeida. "I am very happy to know that Benfica are interested. I am good at Werder Bremen, but Benfica is a big club. "Everyone recognises Benfica and they are a team that is on the rise. They were champions last season and now will participate in the Champions League." by Marco Pereira |

His career to date has been blighted by not having season where he has played conistently in the first team every week and he needs to find a club in a big league where he can fulfil that, even if its at a smaller club than Werder Bremen.
We need him to develop his talent for Euro 2012. Qualifying starts in two months!
I like Almeida, but he's kind of like a bigger Nuno Gomes to me. It takes him 5 shots to make a goal. He does bring the same size as Cardozo tho so i guess that's good. If somehow Benfica could convince Huntelaar to come THAT would be a great signing. He probably thinks he's too good to play in Portugal tho.
