Hugo Almeida back in trainingForward back from injury Portuguese international Hugo Almeida could yet be fit to play in next month’s World Cup qualifiers with Bosnia, after returning to training with Werder Bremen on Friday.
The 25-year-old has been out of action since August, when he damaged his foot while in action for his club in the Bundesliga. Emergency appendix surgery delayed his return, before a problem stemming from the subsequent operation further put the breaks on Almeida’s proposed comeback. However, the former Porto striker was able to take part in training with his Bremen team-mates on Friday afternoon, and is optimistic that he will be back on the pitch before long. “I’m training again and feeling good. I still have a little pain, but that’s normal in the recovery process,” Almeida told the press on Friday. “I hope to return as soon as possible, perhaps next week. It was a phase of bad luck that I do not want to happen again. To have two or three injuries after one another isn’t easy, but it’s resolved now. I hope it’s my last injury and I can play the rest of the league. “I hope to be ready to help the (national) team. Hopefully everything goes well here so I can take part with the Seleccao.” Related article: Injury setback for Hugo Almeida Add your comment |
