Almeida brace helps Bremen to Bundesliga summit

Freiburg 0-6 Werder Bremen

Hugo Almeida continued his recent good form following his return from injury with two goals as Werder Bremen hammered Freiburg at the Badenova Stadium to go temporarily top of the German league.

Having had to withstand a strong start from the hosts, Bremen soon began to carve their opponents apart with some beautiful one-touch football, but it was not until the 33rd minute that Almeida opened the scoring with a simple close-range header from Mesut Ozil’s left-wing cross.

Marko Marin made it 2-0 with a free-kick ten minutes into the second half, with Almeida getting his second two minutes later with a trademark goal. The ball broke to the former Porto man on the far side of the penalty area, and Almeida connected with a firm left-footed drive which found the bottom corner.

Impressive young German international Ozil got his name on the score sheet with a well-taken fourth, before Naldo converted a penalty and substitute Markus Rosenberg, who replaced Almeida on 70 minutes, completed the rout when he finished from another perfect Ozil delivery.

“We approach every game with the right concentration, attitude and seriousness,” Almeida said after the match. “Our underlying will to win makes us so strong at the moment.”

Bremen, who are unbeaten in twenty matches in all competitions, move top of the table with 26 points from thirteen games, although Bayer Leverkusen can reclaim top spot with a point at Bayern Munich this afternoon.

If almeida keeps up his form and Liedson doesnt improve i think ALmeida should replace him on the national team.
