Zenit move will make me stronger - Bruno Alves

Defender excited over new challenge

Fresh from signing a four-year contract with Zenit Saint-Petersburg, Portuguese international Bruno Alves believes he has taken the right choice to benefit his career.

Alves’ €22m transfer to Russia came to a surprise to many, as the former Dragons captain had long been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs. However, the 28-year-old insists the move to Luciano Spalletti’s Zenit side will be good for him, and is ambitious about what he can achieve with the club.

“It is a big step for my career and I hope to win many titles,” Alves said. “I chose Zenit because it is a fantastic club and they have followed me with interest for a long time. I was also keen to work with Spalletti. I am convinced that I have taken the right option.

“It is a new experience that will make me stronger. I am happy to be playing with Fernando Meira and Danny and I hope we can win many titles together.”

I'm curious about the comments.
Maybe he felt he was getting stale in playing in Liga Sagres.
Maybe he fekt that Porto was in for a bit of a drop in quality.
Maybe he didn't care for Boas.

Who knows, but curious just the same.
