Player of the Year Danny in no rush to leave ZenitBig clubs linked with midfielder Danny was this week voted the Russian Premier League’s Player of the Year, but the Portuguese international insists he is happy to remain with Zenit Saint-Petersburg for the remainder of his contract.
Danny has scored ten goals and provided eight assists from his 26 appearances, as Zenit clinched the Russian title with time to spare last weekend. In recognition of his contribution, the 27-year-old was elected by the league’s coaches as the Player of the Year for 2010, adding to the 2006 award he received while playing for Dynamo Moscow. “It was very good, it was a reward for my work and the effort made by my team-mates,” the former Sporting man said. “We have become champions, which is the culmination of all our efforts.” Ever since his initial impact in Eastern Europe in 2006, Danny has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Chelsea believed to have harboured a strong interest in the player last year. Now Manchester United and Barcelona are believed to be following the midfielder, but Danny insists he is happy to remain with Zenit for the moment. “I have another year and a half on my contract with Zenit and I intend to fulfil it,” he said. “But if the club receives a big offer in December that is irrefutable, then I’ll think about it. I am not aware of any offers from elsewhere, so I cannot comment on that. “The most important thing for me is to complete the last three games of the season and then go on holiday with my wife and children, which is what we all want. As for the rest, we’ll have to wait and see.” Zenit wrap up their league campaign with a home match with Krylya Sovetov on Sunday. After that, Danny’s men have two more Europa League matches against Anderlecht and AEK, although there is little significance to those games either, as Zenit have already qualified as winners of Group G. He shoulkd start as Portugals attacking mid, and should he move to a bigger club, it will only improve his chances.
As for Quaresma, can we please stop. How many times does he need to fail before people stop talking about potential. He plays best in small ponds where the pressure isn't great.
Quaresma is without doubt one of the most naturally gifted players in the world, but he is incredibly incosistent and continiously flops on great teams in great leagues, but I do think that Quaresma should be Portugal's fourth choice winger behind Ronaldo, Nani, and Varela, and Danny should start at Deco's old position.
Miguel: Why do u give this link? He scored in the SuperCup, but it was his first match, his debut. And yeah, all the other teams in this video - like Luch, Terek, Khimki and BATE - are very very strong opponents, hehe.
Arshavin is a magic player, and Pogrebnyak is nobody. His current team tried to avoid relegation, and he is not at starting XI there at all. Ok, let's see Danny in next Champions League. Will he be a star there? That's a big big question...

Arshavin and Progrebniak also had less good moments in Zenit but they "recovered" their form when they changed club. Maybe that's what Danny needs, a new challenge. About Alejandro Dominguez, I don't find him nothing similar to Danny, maybe only the physical appearance. In the field Danny cames to the attack from a rearmost position while Rodriguez is positioned slightly more forward and in order to make deadly diagonals or to appear as second striker to finish. That's true that Danny can also do this, but both can fit well on same team without disturbing each other function.
But I'm still not a magician to predict the future, but I would like to see him on Premier League in the future, I think he will fit well in. But I'm not telling we'll be the next Balon d'Or of course.
@Miklos : You Can't Compare One Player To Another..Danny Is Absoulutely Different With Dominguez...As I Know Valencia Have Too Many Strikers Right Now,,Dominguez Will Shine If He Is Selected Into Valencia Starting XI...But You Know That Roberto Soldado Is On Form Right Now..Believe Me Dominguez Is A Great Striker,,The Player Who Barely Play For His Club Doesn't Mean He's A Bad Player..Look At Ruben Micael in Porto,Nuno Gomes is Benfica And Yannick Djalo in Sporting..They Aren't The Starting XI Of Their Club...But You Know How Good They Are
Danny is not prepared for such a big clubs. I think so.
believe me, i see him very often, it's not a superb player. he is quite good, but it's not a world class talent. he shots very badly, and he disappears in big matches (as vs.Auxerre, Spartak or CSKA).
I don't see him in Portugal national team starting XI. And do you remember the former Rubin Kazan player Alejandro Dominguez? He was shining as bright as Danny, then moved away to Valencia. Is he playing now? Very very little. If Danny will go to Europe, the same thing can happen with him.
In the first few minutes of his appearance against Spain, He had some bad touches, but he eventually was unplayable. Look at his amazingly accurate Quaresma-like trivela to Nani. He is a very quick and skillfull playmaker who can play on the wing and his preferred central role.
In my opinion, he is one of the top 10 attacking midfielders in the world.
