Zenit star Danny flirts with Benfica, PortoMidfielder linked with return home Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Danny has reaffirmed his interest in moving back to Portugal, while suggesting that he is keen to move on during the January transfer window.
The 2010 Russian season ended in November with Zenit crowned champions following an impressive campaign in which they lost just twice. Danny was a hugely influential figure for Luciano Spalletti’s side, scoring twelve times from 28 appearances in the Premier League. Danny, who has one season left on his contract with Zenit, last month stated he was happy to stay for the final year of his deal. However, speaking ahead of joining up with his team-mates for the Dubai Cup later this month, Danny has now suggested that he would be interested in taking up a new challenge in the near future. “Benfica and FC Porto are clubs of my liking, because they always fight for trophies and participate regularly in European competitions,” said the 27-year-old. “I am happy to learn that they would like me to represent them, but for the moment I am still a Zenit player. “The directors of Zenit know what I want, although they have offered to extend my contract by another four years. At this moment, the only thing I can say for certain is that I will travel in the next few days to Dubai where the team will begin a training camp. “I know that they are counting on me because they are still in the Europa League and want me to play against Young Boys of Switzerland, but I have to say that between now and January 31 something could happen.” Danny went on to state that there were no concrete offers for his services at present, while confirming that he would like to return to Portugal in order to “be closer to my family”. Bryan SCB (reference 400 mil and counting) just give up, you don't watch football.
Oh yeah, Vieira bring Danny to the Luz!
I agree that he would find it easier to start for Benfica, but to be honest I don't really think that we need him. He is better than Aimar, Martins, and Gaitan, but I would rather have Benfica turn Gaitan into Aimar's long term replacement. I'd like to see him playing in a big league(La Liga and Bundesliga preferably).
And Bryan, I also noticed that Veloso has been doing rather well in Italy. A lot of people in Genoa thought that he would be a hard working defensive midfielder, but he is more of a deep lying playmaker like Xabi Alonso. He actually is a pretty good passer so he is doing well in the slower, more tactical Serie A.
Some of you Porto fans are surprising me. I think both Porto and Benfica are strong clubs that have the ability of competing in Europe. All they need is a few more quality players and they can take on the best of them. I know our league isn’t at the level of Italy, Germany, Spain, or England but IMO we are higher then the Dutch, Greeks, Russians, (not too far away from the French). I honestly think that if we get a good run going our clubs can put on a great show.
