Player Profile: Alan Kardec
Full Name: Alan Kardec de Souza Pereira Junior
Position: Striker
Date of Birth: 12 January 1989
Place of Birth: Barra Mansa, Brazil
A product of Vasco’s youth system Alan Kardec made his first appearance for the club in early 2007 and has already been burdened with comparisons to Jardel. He first began to show promise at senior level during his debut season where he scored eight goals in 26 games in the Brazilian championship.
At just over 6 foot tall Alan Kardec makes full use of his height, often applying his aerial ability to devastating effect. Kardec has also shown glimpses of quality with the ball on the floor, possessing composure and neat finishing when played through on goal in one-on-one situations for both Vasco and the Brazilian under 20 team.
After losing his place in the Vasco team, Kardec moved to Internacional on loan last September and shortly after was selected for Brazil for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup squad. Alan Kardec found himself the focal point of Brazil’s forward line and finished as their top scorer with four goals.
Upon returning to Internacional, Kardec once again struggled for first team football making just two appearances for the club. With Internacional failing to take up an option to purchase the player outright from Vasco, Alan Kardec leaves Brazilian football without ever setting the domestic game alight.
