I agree completely about Paulo Jorge. I know he's 31 and he plays in Cyprus, but form wise, he has been just as good as Pepe. Many football writers have stated that Paulo Jorge was the most impressive defender in the champions league. He was definitely the main reason why Apoel made it so far.
I would much rather see him chosen than Rolando or Ricardo Costa. Bruno Alves and Pepe will definitely be the starting partnership, but it is very likely that one of them will passs the yellow card limit and get suspended at least once during the tournament. Paulo Jorge should be our back up. However, Paulo Bento seems to be ignoring him...
With regards to the midfield, Moutinho, Meireles, Veloso, and Fernandes are all going to be chosen. That leaves one or two more spots. Hugo Viana and Daniel Carrico should definitely be there, but knowing Bento, he may choose from either Martins, Micael, Ruben Amorim, and Paulo Machado.
I am not a big fan of Carlos Martins, but I have been impressed with some of his performances in Granada. He was their best player against Real Madrid yesterday, and his consistence may be enough to convince Bento. He should be nowhere near the starting 11, but I would rather have him than Micael or Amorim.
As for the wingers, Ronaldo, Nani, and Quaresma will all be chosen. That leaves room for maybe one more winger. Silvestre Varela was excellent in his first two seasons at Porto, but he's been poor this year. Vieirinha has plenty of pace and skill, but he hasn't played consistently in Wolfsburg. Rudy of Cercle Brugge has been extremely impressive, but since he plays in Belgium, Bento's probably ignoring him. Bento will likely choose Varela or maybe even Eliseu.
