It’s that time of the year again! No matter which continent, which country or which league, football teams all around the world are gearing up for the new season and dreaming of having a campaign to remember.
The same goes for fantasy football managers. PortuGOAL is again running a fantasy league based on the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
How does Fantasy Football work?
Fantasy football is a hugely popular game played all over the world. Taking the role of the head coach, participants select their squad from a set budget. Any player from any club in the league – in this case the Liga Portugal – may be selected, with a limit of three players from any single team.
Next, choose your team each week, taking into account the difficulty of the fixture for each squad member and any injuries/suspensions. A variety of formations can be played… and you’re ready to go!
Transfers can be made throughout the season, with one free transfer permitted per week. More transfers can be made but each additional one will cost points.
Managers’ teams earn points in line with how their players perform in terms of goals scored, assists provided and clean sheets achieved in the case of defenders and goalkeepers, minutes played and a few other variables.

Updates on the Liga PortuGOAL throughout the season
The original version of Fantasy Football created for the English Premier League is played by over ten million people from all over the planet.
The Liga Portugal version is now online ahead of the 2026/27 season. Who can succeed the winner of the inaugural PortuGOAL league last season, RUIning your team, managed by Rui Santos? PortuGOAL will be publishing updates on the league throughout the campaign.

A word of advice. Remember not to miss the deadline to pick your team each week, which is five minutes before the kick-off time of the first game of each matchday. It is especially important to keep your eye out for Friday evening games. Once the first game kicks off, you cannot change your team selection.
