Porto continued their perfect start in Liga Portugal after a regulation 2-0 victory against Arouca at Estádio do Dragão.
Francesco Farioli’s side began on the front foot, didn’t relent and should have gone ahead in the 34th minute. A terrible touch from Jose Fontán allowed William Gomes to steal the ball and race through on goal, his shot saved by Ignacio de Arruabarrena when he should have passed to an unmarked André Silva.
It was total domination, Victor Froholdt heading Gabri Veiga's cross at Arruabarrena before the break.
The goalkeeper breathed a big sigh of relief shortly after the restart when Alberto Costa headed Veiga's corner into the net, the goal ruled out for a foul on Arruabarrena that was a harsh decision.
Pepê headed William Gomes' cross off the bar and Gomes saw his shot saved as the Dragons went in for the kill.
Jakub Kiwior tried his luck from distance and appeared to be rewarded when his effort squeezed through Arruabarrena. Once again the Uruguayan earned a reprieve from the officials, Silva ruled to be interfering from an offside position.
Arouca’s luck ran out in the 67th minute. Gomes went on a long run, cut inside and played a perfect pass to Veiga who took a touch and slotted the ball into the net.
Porto should have put the game to bed in the 85th minute when Deniz Gül raced down the right wing and squared the ball to an unmarked Borja Sainz. He took a touch which allowed Arruabarrena to come off his line and make the save.
The Spaniard sealed the deal less than two minutes later. He got on the end of Pepê’s cross and didn't bother with a touch, taking it first time and steering the ball into the net.
Naïs Djouahra wasted a decent chance in added time but it was too little too late for the visitors who were completely outplayed. Vasco Seabra’s side will lick their wounds and turn their attentions to easier fixtures.
