Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club from Juventus.
Having been briefly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, Manchester City had emerged as favourites for Ronaldo's signature over the last 48 hours. However, it is to be a return to Old Trafford, where Ronaldo spent six glorious years between 2003-2009, for the Portugal captain in one of the summer's most sensational unexpected transfers.

United will reportedly pay Juventus a fee in the region of €15-25m to sign Ronaldo on a two-year contract running until 2023. The Seleção star is currently in Lisbon, where he told reporters his future would be announced “in an hour” shortly before the Red Devils confirmed the deal.
Ronaldo originally joined United as a teenager in 2003 from Sporting, initially as a replacement for David Beckham. During his six years under Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Ronaldo won eight major honours and claimed his first Ballon d'Or award. The Madeira native was famously given a huge ovation when returning with Real Madrid for a Champions League match in 2013.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters earlier in the day: "He knows what we feel about him. If he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows that we're here."
