José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe are in Portugal for pre-season, where they beat Portimonense 2-1 in the Algarve on Thursday evening.
Whilst the summer preparations and victory felt routine for the esteemed Portuguese coach, there was an interesting line from Mourinho when asked about a potential return to football in his homeland.
“I’ll definitely come back,” Mourinho told journalists. “It hasn’t happened yet, but it will, and not because I feel like I’m close to finishing, especially because I don’t want to come to Portugal for a golden retreat or for the final years of my career.
“I want to come to Portugal at the height of my career and my physical and mental health. Club or Seleção? Anything. Not Portimonense, because they have a good coach (laughs).”

Mourinho is preparing for his second term at the helm of Fenerbahçe, with the tough task of displacing Galatasaray as Turkish champions and ending what would be a 12-year wait to be national champions.
