Nuno Mendes has already exceeded his goals haul from last season, after a penalty set Paris Saint-Germain on their way to a 4-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1. Mendes stepped up shortly before half time to slot home his 6th goal of the campaign, after a questionable handball award gave PSG the chance to gain the advantage at a crucial moment.

Fernandes hot streak continues for United
Also exemplary from the penalty spot this weekend was another former Sporting man: Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils were held to a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, during which Fernandes gave them the lead from 12 yards, continuing his excellent run of output in the Premier League.

Tiago Tomás clinical in Germany
Staying with the theme of ex Sporting players, forward Tiago Tomás marked his return to the Stuttgart line-up with a superbly-taken goal in their 5-2 win at Augsburg in Germany. Tomás’ last five appearances for the Bundesliga side have come as a substitute, but his clinical strike put Stuttgart 2-0 up and registered his 4th league goal of the season.

Beto stars in Premier League
Former Portimonense forward Beto may have switched international allegiances to Guinea-Bissau in recent times, but it would be remiss to exclude the Lisbon man’s star showing for Everton this weekend. Beto struck the first two goals as the Toffees defeated Chelsea 3-0, with his opener a particularly satisfying finish.
Ivan Cavaleiro winner in Switzerland
Much-travelled forward Ivan Cavaleiro is already making his mark in Switzerland with FC Zurich following his move from Tondela last month, scoring the winner in a 2-1 win over Thun on Saturday. The 32-year-old former Benfica man has played in Spain, France, England, Türkiye, Brazil and Poland during his career, making it no surprise he has adapted to his Swiss adventure quickly with two goals already under his belt.
Duarte opens Getafe account in Spain
Portugal international Domingos Duarte scored his first goal for Getafe in Spain, as the Madrid side won 2-1 at Espanyol. Duarte, who has three caps for the Seleção, had gone 50 matches without a goal for his side, but nodded in their opener in the victory, which moved Getafe up to 8th in the table.
