Manchester United returned to the Champions League after a three-year absence with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Azerbaijani champions Sabah at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.
Captain Bruno Fernandes was among the goals, putting his name on the scoresheet in the 42nd minute with a calm finish to round off a slick United move and put the Red Devils 2-0 up. Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez also scored for United, securing an expected victory which sees them take 4th place in the league phase after matchday one.

The result was a much-needed confidence boost for Fernandes’ side, who rested Diogo Dalot, as they prepare to host rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. City benefit from having two extra days preparation following their win over Porto on Tuesday, meaning United’s unchallenging outing was the ideal leveller.
