Portuguese abroad goals round-up: Conceição inspires Juve win; Varela bags Serie A brace; Saviolo helps Trabzonspor thrash Galatasaray; Carvalho scores as Brentford beat Chelsea; Paulinho, Esteves on-target in Mexico; Dantas stars for Rijeka

The last weekend of domestic football before a three-week international break was another of wide-ranging Portuguese scorers abroad. Here we look through ten of the most notable strikes. 

Francisco Conceição has his first Serie A goal of the season and it was an important one, breaking the deadlock as Juventus beat Atalanta 2-0 in Italy. 

 

In Türkiye, former Vitória winger Noah Saviolo helped Trabzonspor to a stunning 4-0 win over champions Galatasaray, getting the second goal with a smart finish. 

 

Fábio Carvalho made a memorable first Premier League appearance of the season for Brentford, coming on for the final minutes of their match against Chelsea and scoring the final goal in a 3-0 victory. Carvalho had been rewarded for scoring in Brentford’s League Cup win at Reading a few days earlier. 

 

Gustavo Varela is proving one of the surprise packages in Serie A this season, with his brace for Monza in their 2-1 win over Sassuolo putting him joint-2nd in the top scorers list with four. The summer recruit from Benfica has five goals in five matches in all competitions. 

 

In Mexico, Paulinho was on the losing side as his Toluca gave up a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to Santos Laguna, but his outrageous finish is worth a watch. 

 

Staying in Liga MX, midfielder Luís Esteves continues to shine for Atlas following his summer move from Gil Vicente, scoring his third of the season in a 1-1 draw with Pumas. 

 

Carlos Forbs was on the scoresheet in Belgium for champions Club Brugge as they dispatched Genk 3-0 at home, with the goal coming amid speculation the forward is being heavily scouted by a host of clubs. 

 

Tiago Dantas scored a somewhat controversial goal in Croatia as Rijeka defeated traditional heavyweights Hajduk Split 3-0 at home. The former Benfica mad had left the field to have his head bandaged after a clash, but was waved back into the action while on the blindside of a Hajduk player in possession, allowing him to steal the ball and put his team 1-0 up. 

 

Returning to Turkiye, Miguel Cardoso, who is a veteran of the Super Lig after five years in the country, scored the only goal to give Erzurumspor a 1-0 win of Samsunspor. 

 

Other goals: 

Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade were 3-0 winners over Radnicki, with ex- Vitória midfielder Tomás Händel scoring the third goal. In Romania, there was a goal for Diogo Pinto as Dinamo Bucharest hammered Farul 4-0, while Rodrigo Martins scored in Petrolul’s 2-0 win over Csíkszereda and Miguel da Silva scored for Otelul, who lost 3-2 to Corvinul. 

In Ukraine, a late goal by former Sporting prospect André Gonçalves earned FC Veres a 1-1 draw at Kaparty. In Azerbaijan, midfielder Ricardo Apolinario scored two penalties to give Shamakhi a 2-1 win over Araz, while Miguel Oliveira was among the scorers in Malaysia as his team DPMM shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw with Kuala Lumpur City. Finally, there was a goal in the UAE for Aylton Boa Morte in Khorfakkan’s 2-1 defeat at Ittihad Kalba
